Measuring pain in dogs and cats
Studies in dogs and cats have shown that assessing behaviour can enable the effectiveness of analgesic drugs to be assessed.
Chronic arthritis is a common cause of pain in dogs, and both clinical assessment and use of objective measures such as the degree of weight bearing on the affected limb have been used to measure the efficacy of different analgesics (Ref #9).
